Associated Press News Release

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are trying to find a 23-year-old Florida State University graduate who went missing days after beginning an internship for a state lawmaker.

Police say Ryan Uhre disappeared on Feb. 2, after watching the Super Bowl with friends at a Tallahassee bar. He was last seen walking home, wearing a Hawaiian-style shirt with surfing Santas.

Family members grew concerned when they had not heard from him several days later. Tallahassee police took over the case from university police on Monday.

Authorities in Tallahassee and South Florida are looking for Uhre.

Uhre had just started an internship with State Rep. Richard Stark, a Democrat from Weston. Stark says Uhre attended orientation and worked one day in the office. Stark is friends with Uhre’s parents.

Wilton Manors – A new clue in the search of a Florida State University student, who has been missing since last week, is leading detectives closer to his South Florida home.

FSU student, 23-year-old Ryan Uhre, has been missing since last Sunday. According to his family, he disappeared six days ago in Tallahassee. “It’s unfathomable, it’s heartbreaking,” said Uhre’s father Mike Uhre. “His phone has been turned off. There has been no contact with family or friends since Sunday night.”

Mike Uhre said he knew something was wrong when he didn’t hear from his son after a few days. “My younger son, they are in contact all the time, and he wasn’t replying to his calls or texts, so at that point, by Thursday, we were definitely worried,” he said.

He said Uhre did not show up to work or to his internship this week and his friends have not heard from him either. He contacted police Wednesday, and FSU police immediately put out a missing person bulletin.

Uhre graduated from FSU in December, but continues to take a class there this semester. “He’s a very smart kid. He plans on being a lawyer. He is part of a fraternity in Tallahassee,” said Uhre’s father.

On Thursday, police received the biggest clue in Uhre’s disappearance, leading them to Broward County. “They were able to determine that on Thursday, they believe it was Thursday morning around lunch time, his phone was turned on and off and it pinged from the Pompano Beach area,” said Uhre’s father.

Family and friends have since been spreading the word on social media and handing out flyers. “We got a response on the Facebook that someone had possibly seen him last evening at this particular bar,” said Uhre’s father.

Saturday afternoon police went to Rosie’s Bar and Grill in Wilton Manors to ask patrons and workers if they had seen Uhre. “It’s difficult, and his little brother… he doesn’t know what to do,” said Uhre’s father. “We are going to continue looking.”
